Educational Objective

The evaluation of the actual state of components, construc-
tions and systems is of the highest importance for public safety. Almost all of the materials used for technical products are subject to changes to a greater or lesser extent during their service life, which result from influencing factors such as operating conditions, ageing, wear and tear, aggressive environments and corrosion.

Since most of the materials change their appearance with these processes, damage can often be recognised early through professional inspection and impending failure of a system can be avoided. The following learning module should sharpen the understanding and the eye for damage that occurs through corrosion, and thus assist in the early recognition of damage (Learning time: approx. 45 minutes).
