2.7.1 Intergranular Corrosion (Grain Disintegration)

With Link ins Lexikon intergranular corrosion, the structural constituents release themselves from the metallic structure. Intergranular corrosion occurs, for example, in chromium steel through changes to the grain boundaries, in that chromium carbides form. The grain boundaries disintegrate and the metal can be ground to powder with the hand.
